Natural antioxidants serve to counteract the action of free radicals which in turn are unstable fragments of molecules that form naturally in the body as a product of metabolic processes and to defend ourselves from viruses and bacteria. However, there are times that they are present in dangerous quantities and can damage the DNA of cells, favoring the onset of degenerative diseases and aging.

These "dangerous quantities" that the antioxidants must counter, appear in stressful situations or if we have a wrong diet, excessive exposure to the sun or pollution, if we smoke or abuse drugs or alcohol.

Where are we going to get these precious natural antioxidants? In food that often contains good quantities of it, we just have to eat correctly and consistently.

Natural antioxidants: meaning

In short, they serve to keep us young, or rather, for make us age to the fullest. Antioxidants help us fight free radicals, freeing bones, muscles and skin from free radicals when there are too many and they cause us damage.

A powerful and natural antioxidant is the said fruit Guava: contains 500 milligrams of antioxidants per 100 grams of pulp. Certainly it is not easy to obtain it and insert it in the daily diet on a regular basis.

Not as powerful but certainly easier to take, whole grains that contain healthy and natural antioxidants capable of destroying free radicals 50 times more than vitamins C and E alone. Also excellent are the legumes, with the peel, very rich in antioxidant polyphenols, or extra virgin antioxidant oil, oily fish, rich in omega-3, wine only if red, and some spices and aromatic herbs.

Between fruit and vegetables, we find many antioxidants: Kiwi, Blueberries and berries, Plums, Pomegranate, Avocado, Carrots, Tomatoes, Garlic, Broccoli and cabbage. And also Peppers!

The benefits of antioxidants are linked to aging: they prevent this process from happening faster than it should due to free radicals which, if present in excessive quantities, negatively affect the immune system and help diseases to spread quickly.

If you fail with a correct diet, to take the desired natural antioxidants, you can ask for help with supplements. There are various types, including online. For example on Amazon there is a food supplement based on red rice and natural antioxidants which also acts by lowering cholesterol levels, as well as counteracting cell aging. It costs 15 euros.

Natural antioxidants and anti-inflammatories

There are some products that also have double function, like this one coenzyme Q10 with Vitamin E, Zinc and Vitamin C, for 25 euros available online on Amazon, with antioxidant effect but also able to reduce fatigue.
